Are you a student eager to finish university and jump right into your amazing career? Are you excited to have a professional job title and the salary that comes along with it? Are you ready to hear to the unfortunate truth about the reality that awaits you after graduation? Read this blog post on why you should consider doing a work placement to broaden your horizons.

As a natural optimist I hate having to do this. If you’re a student waiting to start your first job after completing your studies, you may want to may want to re-evaluate this decision.

The workforce is slowly but surely shifting as employers are demanding more from their applicants. There used to be a time where an undergraduate degree would get your ‘foot in the door’. Over the recent years, more job listings require candidates to have 1-3 years of work experience to even be considered for an entry level position.

This is not to say that students who don’t have prior work experience will not be employed. Instead this blog post looks at how doing a work placement during a your academic career is helpful in accelerating your professional career.

#SalfordBSchool students at North West Finance Awards

The sixth annual North West Finance Awards took place on Thursday 1st October at The Premier Suite in Macron Stadium and had approximately 700 guests in attendance, including staff and guests from Salford Business School. The Salford Business School Employability Hub also invited finance and accounting students (Undergraduate, Postgraduate, PhD and graduates) to experience the event.

The North West Finance Awards are known for “recognizing unsung heroes” across all levels in finance and accounting in the North West of England. Entry for nomination is free and can be made by colleagues, business associates, clients, as well as self-nomination. Nominees are reviewed by a distinguished panel of judges, which included Eileen Roddy, Associate Dean at Salford Business School International.

The North West Finance Awards gained some help this year as a few postgraduate students from Salford Business School took on an internship at the organization as a part of their Business Innovation Project.

Salford Business School Ball – A night to remember

This year’s Salford Business School Ball took place on Friday 29th May at Hotel Football (owned by Manchester United’s Class of ’92) and was the biggest to date as it sold out with 260 people in attendance.

The Salford Business School Ball is an annual black-tie event that not only brings together final year and postgraduate students, staff, and alumni, but celebrates their success as well. However, this year the event was more spectacular than ever as Salford Business School celebrated winning Times Higher Education ‘Business School of the Year’ Award.

Salford Business Submarine takes on the Salford Dragon Boat Race

On Sunday 31st May 2015, Salford Business School participated in the Salford Dragon Boat Race. The event took place at Salford Quays at the largest Salford Dragon Boat Festival ever – where more than 20 teams came ready to row for charity.

Competing in this race was a first for Salford Business School and for majority of the team members. However, the motivation and enthusiasm to support their charity, Kidscan Children’s Cancer Research, pushed Salford Business Submarine to train hard and give it their best on race day.

A total of 23 teams entered this competition this year and over £15k have been raised for charity so far.
