About this placement
What is organised for students on commencement of placement?
You will be working with children ranging from birth to nineteen and their families.
The environment the student will be working in will be family homes,clinics and schools.
The student will beworking across a diverse multi-cultural area.You will receive experience and develop your understandingof the role of the Health Visitor in supporting the development and wellbeingof babies, children and their families.
Spoke placement opportunities areavailable and these will be discussed and agreed once you start your placementwith the team.
Prior to commencing their placement if the student contacts Donna Marie Sweeney or Lisa Chalmers Team Leader for the team they will beinformed of these details.
What are the arrangements for mentors/assessors?
The student will be allocated a named mentor before commencing their placement
What shift patterns are students allocated for learning?
Shift Notes:
We work Monday – Friday 09.00 – 17.00
There is no specific uniform required, however you are expected to wear smart casual clothes that adhere with Bridgewater Trust requirements

What patient care situations are available in this placement?
HealthVisitors offer support, advice and we assess the development and well-being of babiesand young children on an ongoing basis.
Our work is mediated through theirfamilies at home or within clinic environments, so building strong positive relationshipsis paramount to our work.

What resources are available to help students learning?
Full internet access and also access to the main healthcare databases e.g. CINAHL,following input of a password and code.
Many areas have their own area specificinduction pack for students with information pertaining to the individualplacement.
All areas have some books, research articles, and a variety ofappropriate literature
What research and practice development activities are being undertaken?
Bridgewater Trust has a dedicated ResearchSpecialist available to the Health Visiting service.

Students who will require a placement Risk Assessment for any reason, including pregnancy or a support need, should contact the PEF team on pefs@bridgewater.nhs.uk at least two weeks before their placement commences.
Within the Health Visiting Team we care for children frombirth throughout the age spectrum to the elderly.
Within our caseload we arecare predominantly for children from school age and the families.
We workclosely with public health initiatives such as healthy eating and smokingcessation. We have many challenges within the community such as poverty andfamilial practices.
There is high unemployment and poor health. The major health problems in this area are diabetes, heart disease and mental health.Within children we are dealing with poor dental health, diet, sleep problemsand behaviour problems.
