Monday – Friday:- 9am – 5pm (negotiable with named mentor)
What patient care situations are available in this placement?
Children (aged 0-5) and parents are offered universal HV service visits within their own homes
Children and parents are seen in various clinic settings
What nursing model is used for planning care?
Health Visitors work with guidance set out in the Healthy Child Programme (DH 2009)
What core clinical skills can be learnt?
Students will have the opportunity to observe all aspects of the child vaccination programme and all aspects of child safeguarding
Health assessments of children from birth to 5 years
Speech and Language drop in sessions
Well baby weighing clinics and baby bistro (breastfeeding support)

Oldham is proud to be a UNICEF baby friendly accredited Heath Visiting service (Breastfeeding)
We have a small library of books, journals and other resources for students to access
Training is given on plotting the World Health Organisation child measurement centiles
