What is organised for students on commencement of placement?

What are the arrangements for mentors/assessors?

Students will be allocated 2 or 3 staff, who act as mentors and assessors, prior to arrival, however, can be changed by request.

What shift patterns are students allocated for learning?

Early:

7.30 – 3.30 x 5 shifts per week.

Late:

1.00 – 9.00 5 x shifts per week or long day 7.30am – 9.00pm 3x shifts per week. Long day by request of students.

Night:

8.45pm – 7.45 am

What patient care situations are available in this placement?

Induction pack and teaching packs on care for emergency situations, minor injuries, mental health problems, medical and surgical patients.

What nursing model is used for planning care?

SOAPE Assessment: Subjective, Objective, Assessment, Plan and Evaluate.

What core clinical skills can be learnt?

  • Bandaging and dressings CPR, basic and advanced life support
  • Assessing patients Wound care Trauma and emergency care
  • Cannulation and venepuncture
  • Experience with ambulance crew
  • Multi Disciplinary Team interaction
  • Integrated Care Pathway Caring for both adults and children
