About this placement
What is organised for students on commencement of placement?
Students will be allocated a Practice Supervisor and Practice Assessor prior to placement who will introduce them to the department and complete their initial assessment. A welcome pack will be made available to students who provide an email address prior to placement or a pack will be given to them on the first day.
What are the arrangements for mentors/assessors?
Students will be allocated 1 Assessor and 1 Supervisor prior to placement. This can be found on PARE and in the welcome pack.

08:30 til 5:30pm x 3 shifts
0830 til 4:30pm x 1 shifts
0830 til 1:00pm x 1 shift
Notes: Hours can be adjusted according to spoke placements or on discussion with Assessor.
What patient care situations are available in this placement?
Students will be exposed to a variety of different clinics allowing them to develop their patient care. They will develop both their clinical skills and communication skills.
What nursing model is used for planning care?
Care is based on individual patient needs.
What core clinical skills can be learnt?
Students will discuss with staff the competencies they need to achieve and how this will be met in the department.
What additional clinical skills can be learnt?
Communication, Infection control, Observations, Venepuncture, injection techniques, Play and distraction.
What resources are available to help students learning?
Internet, Books, student board, Policies and procedures files, library.
What research and practice development activities are being undertaken?
Actively encourage students to question clinical practice.
