About this placement
What is organised for students on commencement of placement?
- Please download the Orientation Booklet. This contains information about the ward, common medication and treatments along with other invaluable information to enhance your learning experience
- Also please download the General Trust Induction Booklet
- Orientation to ward and an induction to the placement area
- A named mentor is allocated
- There are a variety of spoke placement opportunities which students will be notified about
This placement will be supporting learners using a GM Synergy approach to placement learning, please refer to welcome booklets for more information around this.’
Shift patterns are at the discretion of the placement manager/ Practice educational lead for each placement and will depend on the needs of the placement to enable effective student support using the Synergy approach.
What are the arrangements for mentors/assessors?
Students will be allocated a named mentor before arrival to the ward. The Trust ensures that all mentors meet NMC requirements regarding annual updating and being on the live professional register.
What shift patterns are students allocated for learning?
Early:
07.30am – 20.00pm with one hour break.
Late:
Night:
19.30pm – 08.00am with one hour break.

Please note that the Trust’s “Guidelines For Pre-Registration Nurses Working 12 Hour Shifts” should be read whilst on placement.
What patient care situations are available in this placement?
- Patients who require nursing and medical care for myocardial infarctions, heart failure (right and left sided), acute chest pain, ischaemic heart disease, acute coronary syndrome, angina, palliative interventions and other medical conditions
- Procedures involving patients such as the insertion of pacemakers, cardio versions, ECG’s, oxygen therapy
- Opportunities to attend ward rounds and clinics
- Cardiac rehabilitation

Roper, Tierney and Logan.

- MINAP and AQ (AMI and Heart Failure)

- Pressure ulcer audit currently being done
- Links into specialist areas via key nurses to cascade information
