About this placement
What is organised for students on commencement of placement?
All students will undertake a student orientation day introducing them to the speciality. This will either be on the first day or within the first two weeks of the practice placement, depending upon student numbers and duration of placement.
All students are provided a student orientation and competencies pack which outlines the services expectations of them and what they can expect from us. This is dovetailed in with the NMC code of conduct and essential skills clusters.
What are the arrangements for mentors/assessors?
All students are provided with a mentorship team. Each team consists of a sign-off mentor, a mentor and associate mentor.
All students are expected to work 50% of their shifts with a mix from the mentor team.
All mentors are actively involved in assessing student progression, guided by the teacher practitioner
What shift patterns are students allocated for learning?
Early:
7.30am-3.30pm
Late:
12.00pm – 8.00pm
Night:
7.30pm- 8am
Shift Notes:
Students are expected to attend their placement on time and adhere to the appropriate uniform policy and time keeping policies of both the Trust and higher education institution that they may be attending.
Students are expected to act within the NMC code of conduct at all times.
We do not permit the use of mobile telephones during practice hours.

We are the only burn service in Britain to provide a multi-disciplinary / professional education & development programme for the Burn MDT resulting in a recognised professional qualification covering both Adult and Paediatric Burn Care.
