About this placement
What is organised for students on commencement of placement?
Students are sent a welcome letter via email which includes off duty, name of Mentor and a link to a YouTube video to provide insight into our services
Informal orientation prior to placement offered
Orientation to the facility and introduction to Mentor on arrival

What are the arrangements for mentors/assessors?
Mentors complete annual face-to-face/online Mentor Updates
Mentors complete monthly 1:1s with management and have annual appraisals
Mentors and Assessors receive regular feedback from student evaluations through various team meetings.
PEF team available to support Mentors and Assessors
What shift patterns are students allocated for learning?
Early:
07.30 – 15.30
Late:
13.00-21.00
Night:
21.00 – 08.00
Shift Notes:
Your shift pattern will reflect your Mentor’s off duty.
Longer shifts can be negotiated with your Mentor if appropriate.
An 8 hour shift includes a 30 minute unpaid break.
An 11 hour night shift includes 1 hour unpaid break.
Generally, we are closed on weekends and bank holidays.

What nursing model is used for planning care?
The Roper, Logan, Tierney Activities of Living Model (1996) has been adapted and incorporated it into nursing assessment documentation, to be completed on admission for all inpatients.
We use the Nursing Process of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation to co-ordinate our care, incorporating care planning and ‘Named Nurse’ policies

What research and practice development activities are being undertaken?
We specialise in paediatric clinical research. We have numerous clinical trials running and have numerous on-going initiatives to develop our practice area i.e. quality and safety initiatives.
Spoke Placements
We have a vast number of spoke placements available relating to exposure to Adult nursing, haematology and oncology, sexual health, IVF therapy, emergency care etc. Please contact us if you would like more information and we can email our Student Nurse Programme Booklet to you.
