About this placement
What is organised for students on commencement of placement?
A complete introduction to Aseptic Non-touch Technique andwound care.
Education on the impact ofinfection, stress, and diet on wound healing.
The students are exposed to the importance of excellent pain relief and the benefit of distraction therapy, and gain an understanding of the impact ofthermal injury on the child and family.
What are the arrangements for mentors/assessors?
Each student is allocated a minimum of two mentors at the commencement of placement and interviews are scheduled as appropriate to ensure outcomes are met.

There is a consistent 08.00 – 16.00 Monday to Friday working pattern
What patient care situations are available in this placement?
Wound care involving nursing staff, occupational therapist and physiotherapist, sometimes in conjunction with play specialist.

This is a busy nurse-led clinic which offers a challenging and insightful environment where the student can become familiar with the unpredictable nature of wound care and how children cope undergoing painful procedure.
