About this placement

What is organised for students on commencement of placement?

On commencement of placement, students will be provided with an induction pack, work booklet, proposed timetable, and orientation to the placement environment.

What are the arrangements for mentors/assessors?

The Colorectal Nursing Team consists of Practice Supervisors and Assessors who are trained and experienced in supervising and assessing learners.  Prior to arrival, a Practice Assessor and Supervisor will be assigned to each Student but throughout their placement they will have the opportunity to work with all members of the team in various clinical settings

What shift patterns are students allocated for learning?

Students will be expected to work Monday to Friday 8am – 4pm.

Hours may vary depending on clinical setting and spoke placements arranged

What patient care situations are available in this placement?

Breaking bad news.

Clinic settings such as Colorectal and Stoma clinics.

Acute ward reviews.

Multidisciplinary meetings.

What nursing model is used for planning care?

An adaptation of Roper, Logan and Tierney is used in most clinical settings.

What core clinical skills can be learnt?

Advanced Communication Skills.

Stoma Care.

Interpreting Radiology Results.

Surgical Nursing Skills.

Research and data analysis.

Documentation.

What resources are available to help students learning?

A student welcome/resource pack will be provided on arrival to placement.
