About this placement
What is organised for students on commencement of placement?
All students will be allocated a supervisor and assessor prior to the commencement in practice.
The student will receive a welcome pack and will receive a full orientation and induction during the first 48 hours.
Students are welcome to have a pre-visit to the service and partake in their induction prior to commencement in practice and time will be given in lieu (optional).
Please contact the placement no sooner than two weeks prior to commencement to arrange your shift pattern.
What are the arrangements for mentors/assessors?
All Students are allocated a supervisor to support them in practice; we can also accommodate third year final students with the support of a sign off assessor.
All supervisors and assessors are updated on an annual basis as required by the NMC and are registered on the Live register for mentors held by the practice education Facilitators.
In the event of your allocated supervisor/assessor being unavailable for annual leave or sickness alternative arrangements will be made to support your practice.
What shift patterns are students allocated for learning?
Early: 7am-3pm 30 min break
Late: 1pm – 9pm . 30 min break
Night:7pm- 7-15am 1hr break
Long Days: 7am – 7-15pm 1hr
Shift Notes:
Students are encouraged to work a mixture of early, late and night shifts which incorporate some weekend exposure to experience 24 hour care.

Spoke Placements
Students can access a variety of spokes placements which are highlighted in the student welcome pack and in a spoke folder in placement.
Students are expected to complete a spoke placement feedback sheet to identify what learning outcomes they want to achieve, what they learnt from the spoke experience and a discussion with their mentor of their experience and what further development opportunities would support their learning.

Dress code
Students are expected to wear their student uniform
Anybody attending placement in inappropriate clothing will be sent home to change immediately.
Mentors
You may be supported by practice staff studying for the preparation for mentorship course, this is overseen by a qualified mentor and your documents will be countersigned by the mentor.
