Trust and local induction, biometrics and key induction will be arranged for all learners prior to placement, there is an expectation for all learners to attend these training days. It is important for Learners to have completed their Information Governance e-learning prior to placement, they can complete Paris e-learning on their first day, which will then give the learner access to Paris
Learners can expect a ward and fire induction on their first day on the ward, and we have a Learners welcome pack, which will be given to each learner, or this can be e-mailed to Learners prior to placement if requested. Learners will need to always comply with the wards safety and security policies, mobile phones are not allowed on the ward, and we are a none smoking trust. Learners should only bring essential belongings to the ward, if there is any doubt with regards to what can/ cannot be brought onto the ward, please ask when you call prior to placement. Learners are requested to wear their uniform for every shift.
There is on-site parking, and all learners are issued with free parking on their NET2 badge. Learners must ensure they always have their GMMH learner ID Badge on their person. Learners who do not have a GMMH learner ID badge, must contact the PEF asap (details below) and must not attend placement without it.
What are the arrangements for mentors/assessors?
Learners are assigned a Practice Assessor and Supervisor(s) prior to commencing placement, where possible. Your Assessor or Supervisor will complete the initial interview during the first week, where possible.
Learners will work alongside multiple Supervisors who will then provide feedback to your Assessor.
The Assessor will meet with the learner for the mid-point and final-point review, to provide feedback on development- these meetings will be scheduled in advance.

What patient care situations are available in this placement?
Our model of care is based on the principles of recovery; a feeling of hope and optimism is essential for our patient’s recovery. We believe that our patients should be empowered to regain and maintain control over their lives and to develop a sense of meaning and purpose. Research and Innovation Department – Research & Innovation is at the heart of everything we do at GMMH. It is a key part of the NHS constitution and a strategic priority for the Trust.
We want to make sure that our staff, service users and carers have every opportunity to take part in and benefit from research and innovation. We want to use research and innovation to help close the inequalities gap and improve clinical services and outcomes. And we want to empower staff with the latest information about evidence-based practice.
We’re in a good position to achieve this:

- 10 research unitscovering a broad range of topics and conditions.
- Strategic relationshipswith academic partners including University of Manchester, NIHR Manchester Biomedical Research Centre and Clinical Research Facility, and Health Innovation Manchester, among others.
- More than 1,650 participants (service users, staff and carers) in externally funded research projects in 2022/2023.
- More than 50 studies currently recruiting.
Continuing Professional Development – The GMMH CPD team is a new team within the Trust that coordinate the clinical training requirements, delivery and monitoring of the Continuing Professional Development need of Allied Health Professionals, Registered Nurses and Registered Nursing Associates within GMMH. The CPD team provide a range of CPD trainings to GMMH workforce based on the training needs identified. The training needs are reviewed, evaluated regularly and tailored to meet the skill gaps within the workforce and its CPD requirements. CPD team also co-ordinate and facilitate the preceptorship programme.
All GMMH staff can access CPD trainings through their Learning Hub account. We currently have numbers of courses available of learning hub.
We are currently working through the training priorities of the trust and the learning hub is updated as and when new training is available.
Currently we use the blended model to deliver the training. The trainings are delivered, face-face face, virtually via MS teams and e-learning options are available.
