About this placement

What is organised for students on commencement of placement?

Learners are encouraged to make contact prior to commencing placement to discuss COVID requirements, start date, shift pattern and expectations. Please wear a uniform.

Local and learner induction/orientation will take place on first day where possible, discussion of expectations and prison tour. Restricted Items- NO MOBILE PHONES/CHARGES/SMART WATCHES, ELECTRICAL ITEAMS/LIGHTERS/WEAPONS/HOODIES/CHEWING GUM. A comprehensive list of unauthorised items will be sent to the learner prior to their placement.

You are only permitted to bring in your essential belongings to the prison.

Welcome pack/letter will be available to the learner with details about security, medications, parking (on site), lunch arrangements (lunch can be brought on site, there are kitchen facilities available, or you can leave the site during your break for lunch).

What are the arrangements for mentors/assessors?

Learners are assigned to an assessor and supervisor(s) prior to commencing placement where possible. The Assessor or Supervisor will complete the initial interview during the first week where possible.

Learners will primarily work alongside multiple supervisors who will then provide feedback to the assessor.

The Assessor will meet with the student at mid-point and final-point to provide feedback on development.

What shift patterns are students allocated for learning?

Monday – Friday 09.00 – 17.00 hrs

What patient care situations are available in this placement?

The HMP Forest Bank Inreach Mental Health Team is part of the new integrated Greater Manchester Mental Health Foundation Trust Team. The placement will be based with the secondary mental health team but as part of the learner experience there will be exposure via spokes to our Primary Mental Health Team, NEW neurodiversity teams and subcontracted and external agencies.

This model is based on the Stepped Care Model.

The Inreach Mental Health Team assess our patient group on a 1-1 basis. These assessments will be completed in allocated interview rooms within the prison. There are weekly clinics are with the Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist and opportunity to have a spoke with the Clinical Psychologists.

There will be opportunity to also shadow the Primary Mental Health Team who complete triage ACCT reviews emergency ledgers risk assessments and 1-1 assessments.

Additional Information

Client Group – Male over the age of 18. Remand, convicted and sentenced prisoners. Category B prison

Due to security issues, there is restriction on belongings allowed within the prison:

No electronic equipment (mobile phones, laptops, tablets, flash drives etc
None smoking – no cigarettes, lighters, matches.
No glass or aerosols
Photo id required to be shown at point of entry.

Personal belongings subject to searches and pat down of staff entering may be required.
