What is organised for students on commencement of placement?

What are the arrangements for mentors/assessors?
There are qualified practice supervisors and assessors on the ward working over a 24 hour shift pattern. All practice supervisors and assessors are updated on an annual basis.
What shift patterns are students allocated for learning?
Early:
7am-3pm (30 minutes break)
Late:
1pm-9pm (30 minutes break)
Night:
7pm-7.15am (1 hour break)
Long Day: 7am-7.15pm (1 hour break)
Shift Notes:
There is an expectation that students follow the shifts they are assigned to and any changes to off-duty will need to be a straight swap and in agreement with the Assessor, Manager or PEL

Providing recovery focused therapeutic interventions
1:1 sessions
Completing mental state assessments
Medicines management

What nursing model is used for planning care?
A multi-disciplinary team model
Consistency and boundaries are very important for our service, we aim to bridge the gap between CAMHS and adult services by promoting autonomy and independence through recovery motivated care planning.
What core clinical skills can be learnt?
Medication administration- knowledge and awareness of side effects
Care planning
Weekly MDT review- observation and completing nursing reports
CPA Reviews- observation and completing of nursing reports
Documentation of Incident reporting (datix)
Risk assessment and management plans- initial and updating
Mental state examinations
What additional clinical skills can be learnt?Security procedures
Shift management- shift coordination, delegation and handovers
Physical wellbeing- physical observations, weight management / restoration

Students are not required to wear uniform, but expected to be neat and tidy and wear the Trust ID at all times.
Please bring evidence of IG certification from the core skills to enable quicker access to Paris
Students are welcome to come for a pre-visit to look round the ward and meet the staff and service users prior to commencing on placement.
