About this placement
What is organised for students on commencement of placement?
- Full induction to placement, introduction to specialism in Community Mental health Nursing and Care Coordination
- Allocation of mentor and assessor
- Close supervision in practice
- Opportunities for spoke placements in wide area of practice.
What are the arrangements for mentors/assessors?
Regular attendance at Practice Education Leads level and updates for mentors.
Flexible working with multi disciplines in placement.
What shift patterns are students allocated for learning?
Early:
9am – 5pm
Late:
12.00 – 20.00

Opportunities to work with Mentor across range of shifts.
What patient care situations are available in this placement?
Working collaboratively using the Recovery approach with service users in their chosen settings.
Availability of opportunities for creative application of interests and activities, Multi Disciplinary Working including weekly MDT interface meetings with Inpatients and Urgent Care Services, Extended Hours service delivery, Delivery of care within 3 Pathways, Psychosis, Non-Psychosis and Personality Disorder.
Care Coordination under the Care Programme Approach (CPA)
Attendance at Ward Reviews for Community Patients who are currently inpatient
Out of Area Nursing and Residential Placement reviews and CPA reviews
Physical healthcare clinics completing full PHIT.

The Recovery Star Tool (as recommended by the Department of Health New Horizons Programme, 2009).

*Assessment skills (Risk, Physical health, ADL, Social Care)
*Care planning formulation engagement techniques and approaches.
*Development of therapeutic alliance and collaborative working with Service Users and their Carers.
*Infection Prevention clinical skills (ANTT)

*Injection Techniques for Deep Intra Muscular injections and Deltoid preparations

Please contact the Practice Education Lead or Team Manager to organise a pre visit prior to commencement of placement to meet the team and allow them to email you the induction pack and resource information prior to your start.
Please remember to bring your certification of Information Governance/Core Skills in order to allow IM&T to facilitate providing you with network access and access to the clinical record system. Without this information there will be a delay in processing you an account.
Dress Code: Smart/Casual, no denim, no trainers.
Placement has all Kitchen facilities and Dining area, so please feel free to bring your lunch and refreshments. There are a number of local supermarkets and eateries in the area
.This placement is more suited to students seeking to build on existing skills and approaching competence.
Towards end of placement there is an expectation to manage a small caseload (under supervision)
