About this placement
What is organised for students on commencement of placement?
On the first day students will meet their assessor, agree learning objectives, meet staff and be shown around the unit, and have the fire procedure explained.
What are the arrangements for mentors/assessors?
Students will be allocated an assessor, and will be able to choose a mentor.
What shift patterns are students allocated for learning?
Early:
7.30am – 3.00pm
Late:
1.30pm – 9.00pm
Night:
8.45pm – 7.45am
Shift Notes:
If students are going to be late for a shift, they must contact their ward shift co-ordinator.
What patient care situations are available in this placement?
Caring for patients with a variety of mental health problems. Intensive care, safe and secure setting.
What nursing model is used for planning care?
Health Career Model used as a basic framework, and Risk Assessment Tools.
What core clinical skills can be learnt?
Depot injections, BP, temperature, pulse.
What additional clinical skills can be learnt?
Students will have the opportunity to work within an intensive care setting. Risk assessments.
What resources are available to help students learning?
Teaching packs are available. Resource room, books, journals, internet access.
