What are the arrangements for mentors/assessors?

- Protected time with the student to complete evaluations
What shift patterns are students allocated for learning:
The Liaison Service operates 24 hours a day, 7 days aweek.
The shift times are as follows:
• Early – 7am-3pm
• Long Day – 8am-8pm
• Late – 12.30pm- 9pm
• Night – 19:30pm – 07:30am
Students are expected to work a variety of shiftsnegotiated with the mentor but must work at least 40% of their time withtheir allocated mentor
What patient care situations are available in this placement?
We have been established in order to meet the needs of people aged sixteen and above who are inpatients at Salford Royal and are experiencing difficulties with their mental health. The mental health liaison team aspires to be a proactive, dynamic multidisciplinary team that offers a comprehensive range of mental health specialities to the patients at Salford Royal Hospital.
The service ensures that all patients over the age of sixteen can be assessed and treated, signposted or referred appropriately regardless of age, presenting complaint,locaton within the hospital or severity of symptoms. The team has a ‘can do’ attitude that delivers high quality assessments and management plans that meet patients needs whilst advocating for, and assisting with, early discharge from the hospital.
The service is an integral part of the acute hospital and works closely with a wide range of colleagues and prides itself in the help, support and expertise that it provides to staff and patients. Patients are referred to the liaison service for many reasons including:
- Assessment of capacity
- Assessment of cognitive function
- Difficulties managing challenging behaviours
- Previous history of mental illness or cognitive impairment
- Risk assessment following incident of self harm
- Management plans
- Psychiatric medication review
- Discharge planning service
- Brought to a place of safety by the police on a Section 136

Additional Information
We ask staff members, including students to dress in uniform. Salford Royal dress code is that we must be bare from the elbow ie: no watches and roll sleeves up if wearing a long sleeve top. This is in accordance with infection control guidelines.
All members of staff should wear an identification badge from personnel at Greater Manchester West.
