About this placement
What is organised for students on commencement of placement?
All learners will be assigned an Assessor and Supervisor(s). They will be introduced to the staff and patients, be shown round the unit, complete the PARE orientation and local placement induction, including fire safety.
Learners are encouraged to make contact with the placement prior to starting and are welcome to have a pre-visit to the service. Please contact the placement no sooner than two weeks prior to commencement to arrange your shift pattern.
What are the arrangements for mentors/assessors?
Learners are assigned to an assessor and supervisor(s) prior to commencing placement where possible. The Assessor or Supervisor will complete the initial interview during the first week where possible.
Learners will primarily work alongside multiple supervisors who will then provide feedback to the assessor.
The Assessor will meet with the student at mid-point and final-point to provide feedback on development.

What patient care situations are available in this placement?
Wentworth House is part of the Adult Forensic Services Directorate. It is an enhanced rehabilitation service for women, providing a community placement for women who require a higher level of relational security, without the need for low or medium levels of physical security. The typical length of stay is from three to five years, although some patients may need longer.
Students will have the opportunity to support patients to engage in activities on the ward, including self-care, maintaining a clean and tidy environment, budgeting, cooking and participating in leisure activities. They will also have the opportunity to accompany patients on leave into the local community for health care related appointments, voluntary work, educational courses and leisure pursuits.
Students will be supported to contribute to care plans and reports. Students will meet the members of the Wentworth House Multi-Disciplinary Team at Multi-Disciplinary Meetings and informal meetings. Students can attend Mental Health Act renewals and tribunals.
Students will administer medication under supervision, and will support patients as they take increasing levels of responsibility for medication self-administration as they advance through the different stages of self-administration.
