About this placement
What is organised for students on commencement of placement?
Students will receive a full induction to the service and environment. They will be allocated a named mentor who will work with them throughout the placement.
Student have the opportunity to work with offenders who experience a range of mental health needs, considering, care planning, assessment, risk assessments and recovery.
The service engages service users prior to release from custody where there is an identified need and supports them throughout the residency at St Joseph’s, planning for the transition back to community services.
Students may have the opportunity during their placement to attend pre-release visits in prisons, attend court, Professional’s Meetings, CPA’s, Multi-Agency Public Protection meetings alongside completing spoke placements within Prison and community criminal justice settings in order to better understand the pathways our service users will access throughout their recovery.
What are the arrangements for mentors/assessors?
The service consists of 2 qualified CPN’s who provide support to students. Allocation is identified in advance of arrival. Student’s will be provided with the opportunity to work alongside all members of the team in order to enhance their learning experience.

Additional Information
Whilst on placement at St Joseph’s students will be working with high risk offenders with a variety of offending backgrounds, some individuals may find this challenging and may want to discuss with University or the Team at St Joseph’s prior to arrival.
