What shift patterns are students allocated for learning?

Early:

07.45 – 14.00

Late:

14.00 – 20.15

Night:

20.15 – 7.45

This can be negotiated if necessary.

Students are not able to work in other areas e.g. bank whilst on this placement

What patient care situations are available in this placement?

Rehabilitation plans developed, Oak Lodge generally has service users who have spent a significant amount of time in hospital or in a nursing home, as a result of prolonged mental illness.

At Oak Lodge these people can work to regain and/or develop life skills in order to be ready for independent living.

All service users here are under 65 and mobile.

What nursing model is used for planning care?

Care is based on Person Centred Care Planning approaches e.g. Essential Lifestyle Planning/Path and Mapping.

What core clinical skills can be learnt?

Assessment, planning, Implementation and review. Some PSI therapies. Anger and anxiety management. MHA awareness. MDT input. Ward reviews. Communication skills. Reflective Practice.

What additional clinical skills can be learnt?

A small library of Mental Health Books, mostly concerned with community and rehabilitation nursing – journals, MHA documentation (The Maze) Videos.

What resources are available to help students learning?

Books.Training pack. Psycho-Social Intervention Skills. Mentorship.

What research and practice development activities are being undertaken?

Introducing Person Centred Planning.

Spoke Placements

Assertive outreach Team, Depot Clinic (RBH), Community Mental Health Teams, Social Services teams, Drug and Alcohol Teams.
