About this placement
What is organised for students on commencement of placement?
Students are encouraged to contact MO:DEL before their placement begins to arrange agreed starting date and time.
All students receive a welcome pack on commencement of their placement and a mentor will be allocated.
Full orientation to the MO:DEL Team including orientation to building and local fire procedures.
Complete new user access forms as necessary for access to IT systems and PARIS.
What are the arrangements for mentors/assessors?
All of the mentors within the MO:DEL team attend annual mentor updates.
Mentors have access to clinical and line management supervision.
A team approach will be adopted to support the student during their placement and to enhance their learning.

The MO:DEL Service operates Monday to Friday 09:00 – 17:00
What patient care situations are available in this placement?
MO:DEL work collaboratively with adults who have concerns about their mental well-being and who come into contact with the criminal justice system.
Appointments will take place in a variety of settings including but not limited to, patient’s home, probation services and prison.
What nursing model is used for planning care?
Nursing models offer a framework to guide practice and education. Although MO:DEL do not use one specific nursing model, each practitioner will adopt aspects of a number of models to support the patient they are working with. Each patient will have a holistic assessment of their needs completed and care planning will follow on from this assessment and will be individual for each patient in order to meet the needs identified.

In addition, other skills relevant to student needs and within the levels/competency needs for their given period of placement.
What additional clinical skills can be learnt?
Knowledge of the Criminal Justice System (CJS) and sections of the Mental Health Act that can be/are frequently used when someone is in contact with the CJS.
Opportunity to attend the Mentally Vulnerable Offender Panel (MVOP)
Liaison with Probation, Police and Prison Mental Health In-Reach Teams.
What resources are available to help students learning?
Whilst on placement with MO:DEL, students will be able to;

What research and practice development activities are being undertaken?
All activities are audited for research and logistic purposes.
Spoke Placements
At MO:DEL there are a large number of spoke placements that can be accessed by students and these can be identified on placement.
Spoke placements can be identified to meet the student’s needs to complete relevant assignments and competences.
Additional Information
Dress code is smart casual. No jeans to be worn whilst on placement. You will be expected to have your student ID with you at all times.
