About this placement

What is organised for students on commencement of placement?

Assigned mentor.
Welcome pack.
Orientation.
Introduction to HV team/role.
Discussion around PARE and appointments booked for initial interview.

What are the arrangements for mentors/assessors?

Middleton team has 12 health visitors. Of which 11 have their mentorship.
Students are allocated to a designated mentor on a structured allocation process.
Mentors expect to be aware of a pending student via information from the team PEL.

4-5-6- Health Visiting Model

What core clinical skills can be learnt?

There is a wide range of clinical expertise within the Middleton team of Health visitors. A number of staff has background in Midwifery, Paediatrics, Mental Health Nursing, and Learning Disability Nursing.
All Health visitors have the nurse prescribing V100 and one member of the team has the advanced nurse prescribing V300.
All staff are UNICEF Breastfeeding trained.
Individual staff are wholly responsible for completing their mandatory training and learning matrix.

What additional clinical skills can be learnt?

Some members of the team have additional skills appropriate to their practice.

What resources are available to help students learning?

The team is committed to keeping up to date resources and information for students to access.
There is a wide range of reading material and students have ready access to the internet to support their learning and access trust policies.

What research and practice development activities are being undertaken?

All staff carries out their work on evidence based practice.
