About this placement

What is organised for students on commencement of placement?

As soon as you have been allocated a Synergy ward at MRI please email Pef.team@mft.nhs.uk to introduce yourself (please include a note of which ward you are allocated to and when your placement starts). The PEF team can answer any questions you may have regarding Synergy, the hospital in general and parking.  If you would like to meet with the PEF Team before you start your placement they would be happy to arrange this.

What shift patterns are students allocated for learning?

Early:

07:30 – 15:20

Late:

13:30 – 21:30

Night:

20:45 – 08:00

What patient care situations are available in this placement?

Ward 7 has 27 beds for general medical patients (male and female) with a particular interest in endocrinology and MSCC (Metastatic Spinal Cord Compression).

We provide care for acutly unwell patients who may require IV antibiotics, IV fluids, wound care or other nursing needs.

What nursing model is used for planning care?

What core clinical skills can be learnt?

*Assessing, Planning and Implementing Patient Care.

*Medication Rounds

*Clinical Observations i.e. BP, Pulse etc.,

*Wound Management.

What additional clinical skills can be learnt?

*Communication skills, i.e. working and liaising with a variety of MDT members

*Looking after patients with various conditions and needs.
