Glaucoma Clinics
Cataract clinics pre and post-operative
Minor op surgery
Cataract surgery
Oculo plastic surgery
Vitreo-retinal surgery
AMD clinics and injection lists
Fluorescein photography
OCT Clinic (photos of the back of the eye)
What are the arrangements for mentors/assessors?
We have dedicated mentors
What shift patterns are students allocated for learning?
Early:
08.30 – 17.00
Late:
11.30 – 20.00
Shift Notes:
The Unit operates Monday – Friday
What patient care situations are available in this placement?
Pre op assessments
Post op assessments
Patients for theatre and injections
AMD patients
Glaucoma patients
Care for patients undergoing various investigations
What nursing model is used for planning care?
All our patients are day cases and we use the opthalmic programme of care called Medisoft
What core clinical skills can be learnt?
Able to take vital signs: BP, Blood sugar, Temperature, Swabs
All other core clinical skills will be taught on the Unit, for example visions, implementing eye drops under supervision and any other opthalmic diagnostics
