About this placement
What is organised for students on commencement of placement?
Students will arrive on placement on their first morning and will be shown round by a member of the Team and introduced to appropriate staff and made to feel welcome.
What are the arrangements for mentors/assessors?
Students are allocated a Mentor within a District Nursing Team.

08.30 to 5pm across Monday – Friday.
No nights. However there is an evening service available for learners to access on a spoke. Flexible working is also in place and under negotiate a learner could do 8am- 6pm across 5 days. Weekends are negotiable.
What patient care situations are available in this placement?
Care of patients in their own home or Treatment Clinics Care of patients in Residential Care Homes, Neighbourhood Network Homes. Acute and non-acute medical and post-operative care Wide and varied range of wound care with extensive range of wound dressings.
What nursing model is used for planning care?
Orem’s model of self care and also Roper, Logan and Tierney’s model based on the activities of daily living.
What core clinical skills can be learnt?
Ear syringing Male and female urinary catheterisation Venepuncture Recording of blood pressure, blood sugar Injections – subcutaneous and intramuscular Administration of eye drops, creams, lotions Administration of suppositories, enemas, rectal medication.
What additional clinical skills can be learnt?
All areas have resource information available for students, full internet access and also access to the main healthcare databases e.g. CINAHL, following input of a password and code.

Additional Information
Within Glodwick we care for children from birth throughout the age spectrum to the elderly. Within our caseload we are care predominantly for children from 0 – school age and the families. We work closely with public health initiatives such as healthy eating and smoking cessation. We have many challenges within the community such as culture and religious beliefs, language barriers and poverty, there is high unemployment and poor health. The major health problems in this area are diabetes, heart disease and mental health. Within children we are dealing with poor diet, anaemia, sleep problems and behaviour problems.
