About this placement
What is organised for students on commencement of placement?
Orientation / information pack Allocation of named mentor & associate mentor Orientation to office building & geographical area Student to develop their own presentation on a topic that they are interested in / relating to community & present to mentors Completion of student documentation including assessments and previous placements, identification of learning needs according to year & semester.
What are the arrangements for mentors/assessors?
PEF & PEL to inform mentors & associate mentors of students start date and & length of placement Allocation of students Time allocated in work schedule to allow mentors to carry out assessment & teaching Support from PEF & PEL to all mentors, associate mentors & students.
What shift patterns are students allocated for learning?

Community time 08.30am to 17.00pm Monday to Friday Students can request weekend work as long as their mentor is working.
What patient care situations are available in this placement?
Home care: – wound care, leg ulcer, palliative care, complex care, long term conditions, catheter care, peg tube Treatment rooms: – based at clinics & GP surgeries for general wound care & ear syringing Specialist clinics: – leg ulcer & Doppler assessment.
What nursing model is used for planning care?
Roper, Logan & Tierney – Activities of daily living.
What core clinical skills can be learnt?
Aseptic technique / infection control, wound care (acute & chronic), leg ulcer care & Doppler assessments, bladder & bowel care, palliative care, complex care packages, ear & eye care, injections.Contact assessment process, care planning, implementation of care & evaluation MDT teamwork & case conferences.
