About this placement
What is organised for students on commencement of placement?
Students can contact the unit two weeks prior to starting on the placement to introduce themselves and to find out who their Practice Assessor and Practice Supervisors will be. Learners must be Fit Tested prior to commencing on this learning environment. To book a Fit Test please phone:

Students work Monday to Friday 9-5pm
A Welcome Book will be given to each student on their arrival and a full tour of the unit.
During the student’s time on placement they will rotate through all the different areas of the unit.
What are the arrangements for mentors/assessors?
Each student will be allocated a main mentor but will work with other mentors
What shift patterns are students allocated for learning?
Shift Notes:
9am – 5pm Monday to Friday
Students will be given scrubs (theatre clothing) to wear while working on Endoscopy but they must wear duty shoes and comply with the Uniform Policy
Uniform must be worn for spoke placements unless otherwise avised
Going to and from placement the student will wear their own clothes
What patient care situations are available in this placement?
Pre and Post-operative care of patients undergoingexaminations requiring internal scoping. Students will go into the theatres tosee the procedures.

Additional Information
The unit has very experienced staff with a wealth ofknowledge. Mentors are keen to teach and do feel very passionate about thisarea of nursing.
There may be times where patients are brought into the unitfor emergency treatment. During this time the student may be asked to come outof theatre while the patient is stabilised. When the patient is stabilised thementor will explain to the student the nature of the emergency and whatprocedures needed to be done to stabilise the patient’s condition.Priorto starting on this placement students should revise the digestive system,basic liver function, the causes and consequences of basic liver failure.
