About this placement

What is organised for students on commencement of placement?

Induction to department – includes staff, location of assessment rooms, clinical rooms and emergency equipment and other statutory requirements; eg fire and health and safety.

What are the arrangements for mentors/assessors?

There are six registered nurses, two of whom are allocated as assessors and the others will undertake a supervisory role.

What shift patterns are students allocated for learning?

Early:

7:30 – 15:45

Late:

7:30 – 19:00

Days: Monday – Friday

Notes:

The Unit is open daily from Mon –Friday and the students times can be allocated anywhere during these shifts.

Hours can be negotiated with your mentor or the spoke placement co-ordinator accordingly

Patient Assessment

What nursing model is used for planning care?

As this is an assessment service there is a formal assessment document/system that underpins all our clinical requirements.

What core clinical skills can be learnt?

Anaesthetic Assessment of patients

Recording of basic observations

What additional clinical skills can be learnt?

Venepuncture

Undertaking ECG’s
