About this placement

What is organised for students on commencement of placement?

Welcome Email to students 1 week prior to starting placement which includes: Ward Summary, Shift Patterns (Including first week rota allocation), Assessor and Supervisor, Ward Manager details and PEL contact information.

On first shift – Orientation to ward, staff and named Assessor/Supervisor. Initial meeting and student pack.

What are the arrangements for mentors/assessors?

Assessors and Supervisors are allocated the week prior to starting placement in welcome email. If unable to allocate or short notice, arrangements are made on first shift.

What shift patterns are students allocated for learning?

Early:                7.30am –2.00pm

Late:                 2.00pm – 8.00pm

Long Day:         7.30am – 8.00pm

Night:               8.00pm – 8.00am

What patient care situations are available in this placement?

We care of patients from emergency admission via A&E or from Acute Wards. Also occasionally taking patients from Elective Day-Case Silver Heart unit (Ward 1).

We are an 18 bedded inpatient cardiology unit that cares for patients with cardiac problems such as heart attacks, arrhythmias and heart failure. Our patients can undergo cardiac procedures during their stay with us such as angiography, stents and pacemakers, plus many more.
