About this placement
What is organised for students on commencement of placement?
Prior to commencement of placement your off duty will be confirmed and your mentor will be allocated.
It is recommended when ringing for your off duty to request a visit to the placement.
The aim of this visit is to allow you to meet your mentor and be oriented to the unit prior to commencement of your placement; this may help to overcome any nervousness you may have.
An orientation pack will be given to you to take away and read to explain the structure of the placement and its philosophy.
This placement is a pioneering area and has been developed to enable you to gain vast knowledge and experience in all aspects of nursing care. The placement will be completed on Wolstenholme Intermediate Care Unit. There will be opportunity for spoke placements within other clinical environments at Rochdale Infirmary including the specialist Dementia Unit-Oasis, the Clinical Assessment Unit, Urgent care centre and with the Urgent Community Care Team.
What are the arrangements for mentors/assessors?
All students will be allocated a mentor prior to commencement of placement and they will be ready to welcome you on your first day.
What shift patterns are students allocated for learning?
Early:
07.30 – 15.30
Late:
12.30 – 20.30
Night:
20.00 – 08.00

What patient care situations are available in this placement?
Wolstenholme IMC Unit will enable you to participate in all aspects of personal care. We care for patients with varied health needs and co – morbidities. Included are patients who have had Myocardial infarctions, Transient Ischemic Attack, Hypo/Hypertension, Diabetes, Patients with Dementia/ confusion and patients at the end of life. The care that is provided is person centred and quality driven; showing a compassionate approach and ensuring patient respect and dignity is always a priority.
