What is organised for students on commencement of placement?

Introduced to mentor and team . .

Introduced to environment, .toilets., cafe. parking.

Initial interview on day one .

Work with mentor to develop timetable to cover placement

What are the arrangements for mentors/assessors?

We have 4 mentors/4 assessors  (RGN) ,

We are a multiprofessional team so we have the opportunity for students to spend time with these disciplines and they can add to PARE.

What shift patterns are students allocated for learning?

Shift Notes:

We have one shift pattern 8-8pm , seven days per week.

What patient care situations are available in this placement?

Patients within UCC/A/E

Patients within their own homes.

Patients within care homes.

Patients within IMC settings.

What nursing model is used for planning care?

As we are a multi- disciplinary team we have no one model for planning care , we use EMIS templates that provide a structured assessment . We all have generic skills as well as specific role skilss.

What core clinical skills can be learnt?

Manual observations , calculation of NEWS scores and escalation pathways.

How to recognise a deteriorating patient.

Skin tears/ Aseptic techniques. .

Swabbing for COVID 19.

Exposure to top to toe clinical assessments

What additional clinical skills can be learnt?

We have staff who have undertaken the Advanced Clinical skills module

What resources are available to help students learning?

The staff /team .

Written Communication.

Access to BNF (paperback).

Team training sessions.

Training via TEAMs.

Trust mandatory training/with mentor.

Spokes with specialist staff.

On line resources / skills for health e-learning.

What research and practice development activities are being undertaken?

We will have a variety of practice development activities  as the service evolves .

CAAS assessments and evidence building.

We meet weekly as a team to explore pre set subjects , eg mental health, AF , etc.

Parkinsons Nurse.

Enhanced respiratory Team.

Intermediate care Unit.

GP for service.

Pharmacy.

UCC.

Time with different Disciplines within the team .
