What is organised for students on commencement of placement?

Allocation to Mentor, Student Handbook. Opportunity to discuss expectations of placement

What are the arrangements for mentors/assessors?

Student will be allocated an assessor prior to commencing duty. Student will work with assessor at least three times or more a week. There will also be an associate mentor available

What shift patterns are students allocated for learning?

Early:

07:30 -15:30pm

Late:

13.30 –  21.30

Night:

21.00 – 08.00

Shift Notes:

Notes: Long days are not encouraged

What patient care situations are available in this placement?

A wide variety of surgery both inpatient and day case surgery

What nursing model is used for planning care?

Roper, Tierney and Logan

What core clinical skills can be learnt?

Admission of patients, evaluation of care given. Liase with the MDT

Care for patients undergoing a large variety of surgeries

Opportunity to attend sessions in theatre, physio, outpatients and pre op

What additional clinical skills can be learnt?

Opportunity to attend some in house study sessions/days

What research and practice development activities are being undertaken?

Continuous Research and Practice Development within above areas i.e. Tissue Viability etc
