What is organised for students on commencement of placement?

There is a welcome pack available for all students.

What are the arrangements for mentors/assessors?

Mentors/assessors will be allocated prior to the student commencing the placement

What shift patterns are students allocated for learning?

Shift Notes:

Long days 07:30 – 20:00

Nights 19:30 – 08:00

Notes: these shift patterns are negotiable and short shifts can be accommodated

What patient care situations are available in this placement?

The service admits18 years plus clients. There are beds for 8 clients needing nursing support and nursing intervention, clients requiring nursing care that cannot be supported at home by community adult services.  The service also provides end of life care, nursing support for the client under the IMC service

What nursing model is used for planning care?

For the nursing clients the Roper, Logan and Tierney nursing model is utilised.

Nursing staff are relatively new to Killelea House IMC and are still in the progress of building a new service within the tier. This entails enhanced nursing intermediate care Team provide nursing care in an intermediate care facility and at home to expedite hospital discharges and to prevent unnecessary hospital admissions.  The facility provides 8 enhanced nursing beds and work in conjunction with Rapid Response, IV Therapy Team and the MDT
