About this placement

What is organised for students on commencement of placement?

Mentors aim to greet students on their first morning, provide an induction to the placement and introduce them to other members of the Early Intervention Team.

What are the arrangements for mentors/assessors?

Students commonly meet with their named mentor for their 3 review meetings (initial, interim and final).

Students will have regular opportunity to work alongside their mentors and other practitioners, to demonstrate achievement of the competencies required for their placement.

Characteristics of EIT approach:

· Improve prognosis for clients with First Episode of Psychosisby intervening early on in their illness.

· Use an assertive approach to engaging clients withFirst Episode Psychosis, where necessary.

· Higher practitioner-to-client ratio (ideally 15:1).

What research and practice development activities are being undertaken?

COMPARE study: Cognative Behavioural Therapy or Medication for Psychosis – A Random Evaluation

The study plans to explore the acceptability of CBT compared to antipsychotics and a combination of both in antipsychotics or a combination of both

USLEEP; Understanding Sleep Experiences in Early Psychosis

To see how poor sleep influences people’s everyday lives.  Also aims to see if people could benefit from a short behaviour change programme to improve sleep
