What is organised for students on commencement of placement?
Students are advised to contact staff at Maple House prior to commencement to be given information on mentor etc.

Monday to Friday 9.00- 17.00 with some flexibility onstarting and finishing times
No weekend or BankHoliday working.
What patient care situations are available in this placement?
Community Mental Health home visits including riskassessments and needs assessments. CPA and MHA including Capacity Act and Dols.Safeguarding. Using approved documentation
Clinical input, administration of depots and physical healthchecks. Medication calculation and monitoring
Review of client needsand monitoring. Establishing care packages and responding to emergencies withresidential care settings
Spoke placements within the other teams at Maple House andother areas as appropriate to student’s needs

What core clinical skills can be learnt?
Assessment in many areas such as mental health, risk,medication concordance and administration. Exposure to MHA and Capacity Act aswell as Safeguarding and DoL’s
Clinical skills such as physical obs and admin of depots
Observation andcommunication skills
Knowledge of mentalillness and symptoms as well as evidencebased practice and treatment
What additional clinical skills can be learnt?
Reflection and 1-1 training from clinical staff
Exposure to other disciplines such as S/W, OT’s Psychology,housing and other agencies
