About this placement

What is organised for students on commencement of placement?

Allocation of a mentor.

Induction to ward environment and staff on duty. Alarm & keys provided. Shifts planned for forthcoming week.

Mentor’s aim to complete student nurse initial interview and action planning on first shift.

What are the arrangements for mentors/assessors?

Oak ward currently has three established student nurse mentors, with another RMN due to commence the mentor training course very soon. The ward has one sign-off mentor, with another mentor due to complete the course very soon.

What shift patterns are students allocated for learning?

Early:

07:30 – 15:00

Late:

14:00 – 21:30

Night:

21:15 – 07:30

Shift Notes:

The shifts pattern is 7.5 hours ONLY no long, short days, or 9-5 shifts available unless as a short term crisis.

What patient care situations are available in this placement?

Students will be encouraged to spend time with patients in collaborative 1-1 time in order to provide support, and obtain subjective feedback
