Philosophy of the Emergency Admissions Unit

The staff of the admissions unit are committed to providing skilled care for the patient which recognises their individualist.

We use team nursing as a method of delivering that care. We recognise that patients have certain rights.

They will be nursed in a safe environment. Specialised, skilled care will be delivered with consideration and respect.

They will be told what treatment and care they will receive and have a say in that care.

They will be told in a language they understand.

Their dignity, self respect and independence will be maintained as much as possible.

They will be as pain free and comfortable as possible.

Full support from other disciplines within the trust will be given when needed.

All communications and records will be treated in confidence.

Patients who are terminally ill will be treated with dignity and respect and have a right to a pain-free and peaceful death.

Their loved ones will be given full support.

Nursing staff are accountable in accordance with the NMC code of professional conduct.

Staff are supported within the area in their professional development.

Clinical practice is based on nursing knowledge and research.

Quality is an integral part of care with the setting of standards and clinical audit an ongoing part of the service.

We aim to keep good communications between staff, patients and relatives by handovers, meetings and information booklets.
