Mentors are allocated prior to the student starting on placement.

Shift Notes:
8:15am to 5:30pm with 30mins for lunch break. Usually half a day off during the week.
What patient care situations are available in this placement?
Communicating with our patients to ensure they are fully informed at all times.
Wound care and supporting the patient before, during and after any wound care is given.
Carrying out pre-screening of patients e.g. testing urine samples; recording blood pressure and pulse rate etc.
Working closely with the Multi-Displinary Team and Medical Teams from multiple specialities.
What nursing model is used for planning care?
Roper, Logan and Tierney.
What core clinical skills can be learnt?
Recording blood pressures/oxygen saturation levels, pulse and other physiological readings.
Wound Care
Removal of sutures
Aseptic Non – Touch Technique (ANTT)
Hand Washing
Taking a swab from a patient to send to the Pathology lab to detect e.g. e.coli infection.
Taking blood samples (Phlebotomy)

Injection techniques
Pressure Ulcer Dressing
Minor Operations
Visual Field Testing
Lacrymal Sac Wash Outs (Eyes)
Administration of eye drops.
