About this placement
What is organised for students on commencement of placement?
Welcome booklet.
Orientation to area.
Time spent with Bereavement team with opportunities to visit coroner’s office if the learner wishes.
What are the arrangements for mentors/assessors?
All staff have completed pare training.
What shift patterns are students allocated for learning?
08:30 – 16:30. We are a 7-day service however adult learners are not expected to work the weekend.
30 minutes for lunch
What patient care situations are available in this placement?
The Hospital specialist palliative care team work with the wider MDT, to support patients with life limiting conditions and their families. We mainly see patients and/or their families on the ward. We do not visit people in their own home but communicate often with the community based multidisciplinary team. At Fairfield, we also see some of our patients in outpatient clinic.
