About this placement
What is organised for students on commencement of placement?
They will be met by PEL or memner of the team.
Students will be allocated a mentor/associate mentor and they will be given a student pack and given an introduction into the team.
They will be shown around and orientated to the building and professionals working within the building.
They will then set goals and ways of meeting their objectives for their placement
What are the arrangements for mentors/assessors?
The mentors/assessors will be informed of the student starting date by the PEL.
They will then liaise with the student themselves regarding their learning needs.

Times can vary according to the professional they are working with and whether they are in clinics or not. This can be discussed with their mentor.
Mon – Fri:- 8.30 – 16.45
Weekends are 09.00 – 17.00 but this is on a rota basis, not every week. This is negotiable.

What nursing model is used for planning care?
Due to so many changes in the services and models it is very generic and multi-model. No one set model is used due to the complexities of the service offered. Work within the CPA Framework.
What core clinical skills can be learnt?
- The 6 C’s will be incorporated into the learning
- Multidisciplinary working including understanding roles of each service
- Drug administration/depots and the use of psychiatric drugs
- Dementia clinics and prescribing of dementia drugs
- Communication/confidentiality/data protection/governance performance/record keeping/local policies
What additional clinical skills can be learnt?
The student can incorporate their own learning needs into the placement by having spoke placements.
Attending teaching sessions and can do their own presentation if it meets a learning requirement.
What resources are available to help students learning?
All members of the community team and professionals within the multi-disciplinary team have a wealth of knowledge and personal experience that students can learn from.
The internet is available.
Trust policies, leaflets, documents and some reference books.
What research and practice development activities are being undertaken?
Spoke Placements
A list of spoke placements is given within the Student Learning Pack on starting and students may have somewhere they would like to attend that is not on the list. This can be discussed with their mentor on placement. Examples:- Ramsbottom Ward, Pinfold Day Centre, Grundy Day Centre.
