About this placement

What is organised for students on commencement of placement?

All students will be allocated an assessor and supervisor  prior to their commencement in practice.  The student will receive a welcome pack and will receive a full orientation and induction during the first 48 hours.

Please contact the placement no sooner than 2 weeks prior to discuss working hours.

What are the arrangements for mentors/assessors?

All students are allocated an assessor and supervisor to support them in practice.

In the event of your allocated assessor/supervisor being unavailable for annual leave or sickness alternative arrangements will be made to support your practice.

What shift patterns are students allocated for learning?

Monday – Friday, 9am -5pm (excluding Bank Holidays).

What patient care situations are available in this placement?

The physical health care team assesses patients across the 4 wards at Meadowbrook. This includes acute and PICU. Patients on the Ward are usually known patients experiencing a relapse in their Mental Health problems or patients new to Mental Health services who are admitted for assessment of their Mental Health needs.

What nursing model is used for planning care?

Developed by Meadowbrook unit, based on 12 aspects of care.

What core clinical skills can be learnt?

The physical healthcare team at meadowbrook provides a range of interventions for patients admitted to the wards.

Providing physical health assessments (PHIT tool)

Care planning for physical health needs

Wound care

Venepuncture

Substance abuse

Liaising with other professionals such as Tissue viability, diabetic team, district nurses

Clozapine monitoring

Observing physio assessments

Fall risk assessments
