About this placement

What is organised for students on commencement of placement?

Orientation/Induction booklet, numerous learning packs, organised departmental visits,semester specific ward resource area.

Mentorsallocated before students arrival on the ward.

Allstudents will be allocated a mentor/associate mentor prior to the commencementin practice. The student will receive a welcome pack and will receive a fullorientation and induction during the first 48 hours.

Studentsare welcome to have a pre-visit to the service and partake in their inductionprior to commencement in practice and time will be given in lieu (optional).

Pleasecontact the placement no sooner than two weeks prior to commencement to arrangeyour shift pattern.

Early:

07.30 – 15.30

Late:

12.30 – 20.30

Long Day:- 07.30 – 19.45

What nursing model is used for planning care?

Irwell ward follows the Care Programme Approach model as wellas the 20 identified areas of the recovery model

What research and practice development activities are being undertaken?

A recent study has taken place into debriefing following incidents in particular violence and aggression. There are other studies being undertaken across the Trafford directorate and there are research link nurses in place.
