What are the arrangements for mentors/assessors?
A number of assessors and supervisors identified on student noticeboard/ in welcome booklet. Assessor to be allocated prior to placement commencing where possible.
What shift patterns are students allocated for learning?
The MH team work 8am-4pm or 9am-5pm across the 7 days

What nursing model is used for planning care?
The philosophy of care is service user focused & gender specific, non- discriminatory & based on effective multi- agency input recognising the differing needs of female prisoners.
What core clinical skills can be learnt?
As part of the In-Reach team, learners will be encouraged to develop a collaborative approach, placing the needs of the service users who have severe & enduring mental illness at the centre of planning care. The aim of the team is to ensure that service users are given the highest standard of care, which is non-judgemental, service user centred & evidence based.
What additional clinical skills can be learnt?
The service aims to support other disciplines by effecting timely assessment & care provision to service users that present with mental health needs. The team also provides liaison, consultation, support, & expert advice to other professionals & agencies involved in the ongoing care & treatment of mentally ill offenders through the Care Programme Approach.

Additional Information
The In Reach team service was commissioned in 2002 to provide mental health services to prisoners in H.M.P. Styal. These services are continually developing to provide a systematic approach to delivery of mental health care within Styal Prison that incorporates a multi-agency approach, particularly taking into consideration the needs of female prisoners. This includes the delivery of training & support to prison staff.
Learners may not be given keys for security reasons during their placement. if this is the case, they will always be under direct supervision of a directly employed member of Staff. The learner will remain supernumerary for the duration of their placement.
Given the nature of the placement, there are a number of prohibited items (which includes mobile phones). Please talk to your PEL or manager for details.
