About this placement

What is organised for students on commencement of placement?

A welcome pack is emailed to the student prior to practice placement commencing.

The student will be allocated an assessor/supervisor prior to commencing placement.

Discussions will be held on commencing placement of the opportunity to spoke with other services and rotate with intermediate care sites.

What are the arrangements for mentors/assessors?

The team has staff that are both assessors/supervisors and will ensure that the PARE documentation is completed timely at every stage of the placement. We will also ensure that competencies that are discussed at the initial meeting, are met and signed off.

What shift patterns are students allocated for learning?

The working fulltime rota is three long days that are worked over the seven-day week.

The working times are 08.00- 20.30

If the shift pattern is not suitable for the student, then reasonable adjustments can be discussed.

What patient care situations are available in this placement?

The team assess patients medically, physically, and socially.

We onward refer to appropriate MDT members if on-going long-term issues are evident during the assessment and can be managed in the community setting.

What nursing model is used for planning care?

Adaptation of the Roper, Logan, and Tierney model

What core clinical skills can be learnt?

Good communication, Holistic approaches to care, Critical thinker, Compassion/Non-judgemental, Physiological Observations, ABCDE approach to medical assessments, Excellent record keeping skills, Team player.
