About this placement

What is organised for students on commencement of placement?

Students will be allocated a mentor who will introduce them to the unit and complete their initial assessment. They will be given a welcome pack detailing any key points for dermatology including contact numbers and clinical information.

What are the arrangements for mentors/assessors?

Assessors and supervisors are allocated prior to commencing placement.

What shift patterns are students allocated for learning?

Shift Notes:

Days: 8.30-17.00 4 days a week and 8.30-13.00 one day a week this usually alters depending on what shifts your mentor is working

What patient care situations are available in this placement?

Students will be exposed to a variety of different clinics allowing them to develop their patient care. They will develop both their clinical and communication skills.

What nursing model is used for planning care?

What core clinical skills can be learnt?

Students will discuss with staff areas they to need to achieve and this will be met on the department or a spoke placement will be arranged.

What additional clinical skills can be learnt?

Student will have the chance to observe minor operations, phototherapy and dressings clinics along with a variety of other clinics.

What resources are available to help students learning?

Student board, welcome pack, internet access to the dermatology websites , various leaflets and information on a variety of skin conditions and up to date information on the department.
