About this placement
What is organised for students on commencement of placement?
- Induction period
- One on one mentorship work
- Access to working practise of other professional’s in the M.D.T
- Adoption of W.O.R.L.D model of experience and practise

- Commitment to S/N placement
- Regular updates via Trust of Mentors

9 am till 5pm working day No uniforms, but smart casual dress code.
What patient care situations are available in this placement?
Observation of consoling, One on one Therapeutic Work, Children, Family Therapy and support, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Emergence Risk Assessment of Children who self harm Unit based and home visit appointments working and visits to schools.
What nursing model is used for planning care?
Various models and theories are used.
What core clinical skills can be learnt?
Understanding how to build Therapeutic Relationships with Children and Families. Understanding the Emotional Development needs of Children and how families work and contribute to this. Assessments of Basic Mental Health for children.
What additional clinical skills can be learnt?
You will be able to observe and experience various Therapeutic Techniques and how different professionals use them in the team.
What resources are available to help students learning?
You can have access to the Web and various books in the dept that belong to Mentors and also bought for teaching purposes. We have many therapeutic games and resources that help you understand children’s needs and difficulties.
What research and practice development activities are being undertaken?
- We are looking into our own Risk Assessment in Audit
- Parents Child Game Training
- We work with a project developed in Manchester that offers groups for children who self harm.
