About this placement

What is organised for students on commencement of placement?

  • Orientation and induction, including student information pack & introduction to mentor/registrant
  • Introduction to placement staff from all designations i.e.nurses, social workers, AMPHs, occupational therapist, support workers (Health and social care)
  • Allocation of work stations and computer access
  • Discussion regarding learning needs

What are the arrangements for mentors/assessors?

  • Students allocated to mentors/registrants on a rota basis.
  • Notice board and team meetings address student issues and information.
  • Mentors/registrants kept informed of educational updates and feedback from PEL meetings.
  • Support by mentors to registrants; PEL, PEF and university support regarding any problems/issues arising from placement

What core clinical skills can be learnt?

  • Injection techniques, therapeutic interventions
  • Nursing, social care and occupational therapy assessments and interventions
  • CPA meetings and organisational paperwork
  • Medication reviews and information

What additional clinical skills can be learnt?

  • Liaising with other agencies including drug & alcohol services, counselling services, voluntary agencies
  • Co-ordinating and assisting with rehabilitative activities
  • Contact with other Mental Health Teams, including Early Intervention, Assertive Outreach, Review & Recovery, Treatment Support
