What shift patterns are students allocated for learning?

Shift Notes:

Core opening times:-

Mon – Thurs 12.30 – 18.00

Fri & Sat: 12.00 – 16.00

Sun 12.30 – 15.00

Notes:- Students will accompany the Education and Outreach Teams on some mornings.

What patient care situations are available in this placement?

Comprehensive medical, social and sexual history taking

Empower clients to make informed choices regarding theircontraception and sexual health

Communicate safe contraceptive choices using United KingdomEligibility Criteria for Contraception (UKMEC)

Teaching clients about their chosen method of contraception

Undertaking asymptomatic sexual health screens

Providing treatment of uncomplicated chlamydia

Pregnancy testing and pregnancy choices

Referral to external agencies and signposting

Safeguarding and awareness of CSE indicators

Fraser Guidelines and management of clients under the age of16.

Outreach in schools and colleges-education and servicedelivery.

What nursing model is used for planning care?

Holistic care is provided by a multidisciplinary team whichincludes:

Reception staff

Nurses who hold a post registration qualification incontraception and sexual health

Clinical Support Workers / Health and Wellbeing Workers

Counsellors

What core clinical skills can be learnt?

Basic examination-Height, weight, BMI, BP.

History taking

Infection Control

Confidentiality

Record keeping

What additional clinical skills can be learnt?

Assessing issues such as drug / alcohol misuse, self harm andhygiene

Safeguarding skills and awareness of CSE indicators.

Medicines Management

Management of clinical emergencies
