About this placement
What is organised for students on commencement of placement?
Learners will be assigned an assessor and supervisor on the first day of placement and inducted to the team.
Learners are also provided with a student placement pack – Student Welcome Pack
What are the arrangements for mentors/assessors?
Learners are assigned an assessor and supervisor prior to commencing placement.
Learners will be assigned to the Registers General Nurses in our team, who are all experienced specialist nurses
What shift patterns are students allocated for learning?
Our workdays are Monday – Friday, a start time of 8am – 9:30am can be discussed with your supervisor.

Currently we do not work Bank Holidays. This may change in the future as the service develops and adapts to the needs of our service users.
What patient care situations are available in this placement?
The cardiovascular Rehabilitation team are based in the community.
We assess and follow up patients at local gateways, Walkden clinic and Salford royal hospital. Where we deliver exercise programmes, weight management programmes and healthy minds programmes.
Learners will have the opportunity to see our cardiac patients in the acute stages of their disease and their subsequent investigations and treatment as they are able to spend time on the Heart Care Unit at Salford Royal Hospital, cardiothoracic theatres and cardiac angiography at Manchester Royal Infirmary or Wythenshawe Hospital.
What nursing model is used for planning care?
The nursing model used is an adaptation of Roper, Logan & Tierney, which enables us to incorporate the other specialities within our team and provide a multidisciplinary team approach to our assessment and planning of care.
What core clinical skills can be learnt?
* Clinical Observations: Manual Blood Pressure & Pulse
* Glucometer – blood sugars
* Communication & assessment skills
Leaners will be able to attend any in house training sessions that are arranged by specialist members of the cardiovascular rehabilitation team
What additional clinical skills can be learnt?
* Specialist Holistic assessment of cardiovascular patients
* Anthropometry assessment
