Oaklands Philosophy of Care

As a team working together to provide a service for the patients of our Hospital, we feel it is important that we clarify the beliefs and values that give direction to our work.

We believe:

  • That our patients needs come first, and that the nursing ca re that we deliver is of the highest standard, taking into account current research to provide evidence-based practice.
  • That we care for the patients as we would expect ourselves and our family to be cared for, in warm, clean and comfortable surroundings.
  • That good communication is essential and that carers should work as a team to provide maximum continuity in order that the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly but also professional and caring.
  • That the patients are encouraged to be as independent as possible to aid a speedy recovery.
  • That our patients should be treated with courtesy and respect, maintaining confidentiality at all times, and that they have the right to comment or complain in the knowledge that their views will be fully addressed.
  • That all patients should be assessed individually and treated accordingly. We endeavour to care for all patients regardless of religious beliefs, colour, creed or disability.
  • That the nurse should act as advocate for the patient, ensuring that they are adequately informed of all that pertains to their treatment and care. The patient should be provided with as much information and support as possible in order to promote informed consent at all times.
  • That we should develop and expand our nursing knowledge and competencies in line with NMC guidelines. We aim to develop a learning environment for all staff and students and work in a ward where challenges and questions are met with a common need to develop, improve and change practice whenever necessary.

Oaklands Ward Objectives
